Soundex Search:
A soundex search is a ‘sounds like’ search, used to find names which sound similar (eg ‘Smith’ and ‘Smythe’). It was first used for the 1930 US Census to match misspelled names. It is useful where a spelling of a name is uncertain but will result in a larger number of search results.
